Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk...

We did the 5 km walk from Coogee to Bondi today.  Again it was a beautiful winter's day.  This walk was alot more busy than the walk going in the other direction from Coogee towards Maroubra.  There were loads of tourists, joggers, and walkers -- the path was packed!!!
Unfortunately my camera battery died early in the day so I didn't get to capture the journey.  I guess we will have to do it again in the spring!

We started at Coogee since parking is free in comparison to Bondi ($5/hr.).
After our fish and chips lunch from Chish and Fips on the beachfront, we started our walk.

At the far end of Coogee is a memorial for the Australians that died in the 2002 Bali bombings.  20 of the 88 people killed were from the eastern suburbs and near and around Coogee.  The three linked figures in the sculpture at Dolphins Point symbolize family, friends and community.  Joined together, the three figures form a strong and supported structure.

The first small cove we came to is Gordon's Bay which is great for diving and snorkelling.  There is also a clubhouse for amateur fishermen and the shore is  filled with fishing boats.

Next we came to Clovelly Beach, a very narrow protected beach and pool.  Shortly after that, we reached Waverly Cemetery.  This was a stunning sight.  The cemetery was established in 1877 and today there are 6000 gravesites over 4 acres!  It felt massive!
We then hit Bronte beach. It's a nice family beach with lots of bbqs.  The kids rode on a little train which they loved.  We also made a 'iceblock' stop at Bronte.

The final beach before Bondi was Tamarama or otherwise known as Glamarama.  Again it was a wee beach but surprisingly there were quite a few sun bathers in tiny suits out at Tamarama.  The tanners must not have grown up in Australia.  It was obvious they had not been  bombarded with the sun protection campaign!

Sydney Harbour....

Nothing beats a harbour walk on a sunny day in Sydney!!  I'd imagine it wouldn't be as enjoyable in the summer but it is ABSOLUTELY fantastic right now!  There are endless number of places to walk and each has a unique view.

This morning we went towards Mosman and walked around Georges Heights, Chowder Bay and Clifton Gardens.  We could see the city, Watson's Bay and glimpses of the Manly area on our walk.  It was glorious!

At the top of Rawson Park, we came across a Scotland Australia Cairn.  It was erected in 1988 to celebrate the landing of Captain Aurthur Phillip in Australia 1788.  In Scotland cairns are built to commemorate great events or as a memorial.  This particular cairn is made of 1750 stones and each stone comes from a different parish in Scotland.  Some of the stones are engraved with their origin.  Also, on top of the cairn is a stone from the hillside of Ulva, birthplace of Lachlan Macquarie, the 5th governor of Australia.

the first of many to come...

Margot went to her first 'disco' evening on Friday night at the school hall.  It was put on by the  "Bop till you Drop" group.    The kids had a blast.  K - Yr. 2 session was held between 6:15 - 7:45 and Yr. 3 - 6 session was between 8 - 9:30pm! I guess it's only going to go later and later from here and before we know it, she'll be borrowing  the car and getting in the middle of the night!

Parent Teacher with Mrs. Burns...

Fergus and I met Mrs. Burns on Tuesday evening to see how Margot is going at school.  We picked up her portfolio and 'report card'.  Margot is progressing nicely and has adjusted well to school in Australia.  I don't think we get 'grades' until grade 3 at home but the kids are graded here from kindergarten.  Margot got a mixture of Bs and Cs and is working hard.  It's all good.

There will be a disco at school on Friday night!  Should be a good laugh.

Centennial Park in the city

We went to Centennial Park on Sunday afternoon.  It was a gorgeous winter's day.  We parked the car near the equestrian centre and walked practically the length of the park through many ponds (there are 11 in total at the park), many beautiful big big trees and palms, and finally  towards a fantastic  playground at Paddington Gates.  It was a great day.  We had a quick yummy tex-mex dinner in Darlinghurst before heading home.
