We did the 5 km walk from Coogee to Bondi today. Again it was a beautiful winter's day. This walk was alot more busy than the walk going in the other direction from Coogee towards Maroubra. There were loads of tourists, joggers, and walkers -- the path was packed!!!
Unfortunately my camera battery died early in the day so I didn't get to capture the journey. I guess we will have to do it again in the spring!
We started at Coogee since parking is free in comparison to Bondi ($5/hr.).
After our fish and chips lunch from Chish and Fips on the beachfront, we started our walk.
At the far end of Coogee is a memorial for the Australians that died in the 2002 Bali bombings. 20 of the 88 people killed were from the eastern suburbs and near and around Coogee. The three linked figures in the sculpture at Dolphins Point symbolize family, friends and community. Joined together, the three figures form a strong and supported structure.
The first small cove we came to is Gordon's Bay which is great for diving and snorkelling. There is also a clubhouse for amateur fishermen and the shore is filled with fishing boats.
Next we came to Clovelly Beach, a very narrow protected beach and pool. Shortly after that, we reached Waverly Cemetery. This was a stunning sight. The cemetery was established in 1877 and today there are 6000 gravesites over 4 acres! It felt massive!
We then hit Bronte beach. It's a nice family beach with lots of bbqs. The kids rode on a little train which they loved. We also made a 'iceblock' stop at Bronte.
The final beach before Bondi was Tamarama or otherwise known as Glamarama. Again it was a wee beach but surprisingly there were quite a few sun bathers in tiny suits out at Tamarama. The tanners must not have grown up in Australia. It was obvious they had not been bombarded with the sun protection campaign!
