Another Wet Weekend...Saturday

Unfortunately we were faced with another very wet weekend.  What to do?  What to do?

Saturday - we ended up baking chocolate chip cookies following a Bill Granger recipe.  Bill Granger is a well known Sydney chef and restaurateur.  The cookies were good (crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside) even though they were a bit too sweet.  Of course Fiona found them to be just fine!

Oh yes, Karen also had her first drive to the shops ALONE on Saturday morning.  She did okay and made it there and back without too much drama, apart from stalling once at a round-about, forgetting her keys at the store and accidentally missing a turn and ended up towards a big road.  She was able to reverse and got herself home, safe and sound!

In the afternoon, we set off to Glebe for the public market.  It's on every Saturday and has a mixture of used things, handmade crafts, imported stuff from around the world.  We particularly liked a stand where everything was made of recycled items - milk cartons, wood, computer parts, etc.

After the market, we then took a train to Convention and got on the monorail for a tour of the city centre.  We went around the loop twice without getting off.  The monorail seemed a bit lame with only 4 cars and 8 stops but the girls enjoyed it.  Sydney is busy and bustling; the architecture is a combination of modern and victorian.   At times, Sydney reminds us of Asia and at other times it is like the UK, but then again the coast is alot like California.  Sydney is well,.... Sydney!

Karen's cousin Phil and girlfriend Kaelly were visiting from Canberra.  Aimee (Phil's sis) lives near Glebe in Annadale so it was an opportune time to meet up.   We met in Newtown on King Street at "Thai One Ong" (or something like that) for dinner.   We haven't see Aimee since 2001 at our Grandad's birthday.  It was great to catch up.  The restaurant is cheap but good, nothing fancy but enjoyable.  We sat outside in the back garden.  Our girls are always infatuated with pretty feminine girls so they loved Aimee and Kaelly (and Phil too of course!).   Dinner was great, catching up with the gang.  Aimee is super bubbly and warm.  She was able to score us free tix to the aquarium, wildlife park and tower.  Way to go Aimee!!  ;-)
