Our 2nd day in Oz...

Okay, I'm not sure if I'll be writing a day by day commentary for the year but since I have a bit of time, I will try to update this a little more often just now.

We went to the beach today!!

Drove down motorway M2 until we turned off at Ryde Junction for the M3 up to Mona Vale. Our destination was Bilgola just south of Palm Beach.  It was about a 45 minute drive; it was highway driving so the beach is quite a ways out.  Didn't see much along the way apart from beautiful jungles and jungles of gum trees, until we got to about Newport.  Then the beautiful, modern real estate, boats, and fancy cars started appearing.  The area reminds me of southern california abit.

After some toasties, juice and chips at the beach cafe.

We spent a few hours at Bilgola bay.
The girls had a blast!  The waves were 'huge' and within 15 minutes of being in the water with Margot, the ocean stole my new sunglasses!  :-(     Now you see then, now you don't!  Urg, I jut got these.  Okay, I guess being knocked under by a huge wave was worth the cost of my new very comfortable funky shades!

We also made a stop Palm Beach - where they film/filmed Home and Away - the soap I recall from the 80s.  Nice beach, again with beautiful homes, gorgeous boats, and chic restaurants.  I guess Palm Beach was also on the Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous - another throw-back to the 80s.

At the end of the day, Margot said thanks Mom for today.  It was G-R-E-A-T!

We ended the day with a stop at the big M.  Chicken nuggets and sandwich tastes better than at home at least!  We also did a big shop at the local supermarket (open til Midnight 6 days/wk and until 10 on Sundays).  There are two competing supermarkets in the exact same mall - Woolworths and Coles.  We tried Woolworths tonight as it was closer to the car.  Sharon, yep in general,  things are more expensive here!!  You are right.  Sensodyne toothpaste is close to $10!  Need to find the Aussie brands!

I am afraid that Alex might want to join you the moment she sees these photos. It looks great there and we are having rain storms...

That's too bad - about the rain storms that is.
It really is beautiful here! I can understand why Australians return to Oz after their travels and then never leave. We've had a good couple of days. Hot but not too too hot. No jet lag and seeing loads already. As we are in the BURBS, we (I) need to get out as much as possible before school starts.
