The Curriers in Nelson Bay came down for a visit. Theresa, Maya and Tristan came a few days early to hang out but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. Al came Thursday evening and we all hung out for the weekend.
Theresa and I took Maya, Tristan and Fiona into the city by bus on a POURing rainy Thursday. Luckily our neighbour Egidia lent us her double stroller which helped enormously. Jid also made two trips in her car and took us to the bus stop. They have been MORE than generous and helpful!! The day in the city would have been much better on a sunny day but nonetheless it was an adventure. We were soaking wet by the time the bus came. It was about a 40 minute journey. We got off the express bus at the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney's CBD (central business district). The QVB is basically a beautiful shopping mall (upscale shops) in a gorgeous old building. Fiona thought we were in a church! ;-) We had pizza, wandered around in the mall and went into Kinokuniya books for a bit. (Kinokuniya is a large bookstore chain in Japan. Karen used to frequent the Umeda, Osaka location often in the early 90s!)
On Friday the weather was a bit better. While the boys were at the conference and Margot was at school, Theresa, the kiddies and I made it to Balmoral again but it was much cooler and it drizzled on and off while we were at the playground. Despite the weather, we enjoyed our fish and chips on the beach - even though we were ATTACKED by about 30 seagulls. One actually snatched Fiona's nugget out of her hand! The seagulls here are more white and look cleaner but they are certainly not any more tame!
